1:1 · Year-round

Just your kid.
Just a coach.
Just the bike.

Private lessons are for when group camp isn't a fit — fear, focus issues, a specific goal, a crash to come back from, or just a 5pm-on-a-Tuesday schedule. Two-hour sessions, anywhere in the Boulder area, with a senior coach.

When private is the right call

Three scenarios we see most.

Group camps are amazing — and they're the default. But sometimes 1:1 is the better starting point. Here's when.

01 · The Anxious Rider

"They want to try, but they're scared."

Kids who have fallen, who freeze up on the bike, or who watched a sibling crash. In a group, the fear gets reinforced. In a 1:1, we spend the first 30 minutes building rapport, not making them ride. By the end of session two, most are pedaling on their own.

02 · The Specific Goal

"We've got a family trip in three weeks."

Going on a bike tour? Wanting to ride the bike path together this summer? Trying to clear one specific technical move? We map a 2–4 session plan back from your deadline and run it tight.

03 · The Comeback

"I haven't ridden since I was a kid."

Adults coming back after years away, post-injury riders, or parents who never learned. Group camps for kids would feel wrong — and the level isn't the issue. We meet you alone, in a quiet lot, on the right bike.

What a session looks like

Two hours. One arc.

A private lesson is built like a mini-camp day. Here's the shape of it.

0:00 Pre-flight

Fit, helmet, rapport.

Coach meets the rider, fits the bike, double-checks the helmet, and gets a sense of how they're feeling that day. We don't start riding until we've laughed once.

0:15 Warm-up

Skills review.

If we've ridden before, we revisit Friday's wins. If we haven't, we find baseline — balance, coasting, pedal stroke, stops. Coach maps the session from there.

0:40 Skill block

The big swing.

The session's main goal — whether that's pedaling for the first time, cornering, riding without training wheels, or a specific trail move. Lots of reps, lots of feedback, fast iteration.

1:30 Cool down

The victory lap.

We end on a win. A free ride, a chosen line, a celebration. Coach debriefs with parent: what worked, what to practice this week, what we'll do next.
